Consulate General of India

Press Release

The Consulate General of India is happy to announce that the longstanding demand of the Indo-Canadian community regarding OCI fee has been accepted by the Government of India and this Consulate will henceforth charge OCI fee of US$275/- with immediate effect.  The OCI fee is payable in US Dollars by bank draft / bank certified cheque / postal money order in favour of “Consulate General of India, Vancouver”.

In the context of some recent reports carried by the media, it is reiterated that it is the sovereign right of any country to grant or deny visa/entry.  In general, India has a very liberal visa regime and we welcome and facilitate foreign visitors to India, particularly those of Indian origin.  This Consulate issued about 54,000 visas during 2007 and the travelers visited India without any difficulty. Our visa acceptance rate is above 99 per cent. To facilitate the Indo-Canadian community to visit India, there are special visa schemes:

(i)               Five year multi-entry visa

(ii)            15 year visa under PIO Scheme

(iii)          Life-time visa under OCI Scheme

It is clarified that the Consulate General of India does not encourage intervention by any third party in visa applications. Local privacy laws also do not permit it.
